NIACE Cymru concerned by apprenticeship cuts
Responding to today’s press reports of a £31m cut to Welsh Government’s apprenticeship programmes, NIACE Cymru Policy & Public Affairs Officer Aaron Hill said:
“Cuts to the apprenticeship budget are another disappointing blow to adult learners, and we share the concerns of the NTFW that this will have a massively destabilising effect on the apprenticeships programme.
Throughout Welsh Government’s budget process, we have made it clear that when economic growth is accompanied by employers’ concerns over shortages of skilled workers, now is not the time for these cuts.
The funding cuts will have a severe effect on over 25s, who have already been affected by cuts to further education and adult community learning, and are likely have far fewer choices to gain further skills if these cuts continue.”
