Employment Opportunities for people over 50

NIACE Cymru were delighted to host a visit today (12th February) from the National Assembly for Wales’ Business and Enterprise Committee, as part of the inquiry into employment opportunities for older people. The visit saw members of the committee receive evidence from NIACE Cymru and representatives from YMCA Wales Community College, Torfaen and the Open University.  This informal and constructive session considered the barriers to training and employment for people over 50 in Wales and identified the training needs and  steps which need to be taken in order to offer older people the wide range of skills provision  available.  The importance of IT Skills and raising confidence were also identified as key drivers. Best practice examples were also shared wherein colleges and local authorities have worked together to create programmes which offers steps to employment for people over 50.
