The Annual Raymond Williams Memorial Lecture

Learning and Work Institute was delighted that Professor Sir Michael Marmot presented the annual Raymond Williams Lecture at Cardiff University on 9th February on the ‘Health Gap:  The Challenge of an Unequal World’.  We were also pleased that we were joined by Professor Mark Drakeford AM, Minister for Health and Social Services whose own thinking on prudent patients resonated well with the theme of this year’s Lecture.

Mark Drakeford AM said:

“Prudent healthcare is a way of reshaping the NHS around the things that matter most; continuing to provide care for all, based on clinical need. These are the principles Aneurin Bevan stood for and they stand even though times have changed.

“We now need a new partnership between clinicians and the people they care for to deliver the best, most appropriate healthcare in the safest, most effective way. Making people experts in the care they receive can provide huge practical benefits to the health service.”
