Jo Moggridge - Adult Learning Cardiff

“I honestly feel so fortunate to be a part of someone else’s learning journey and am honoured if anyone feels that I have contributed to their growth and development.”

Jo Moggridge - 3

As a Training Officer for Adult Learning Cardiff, Jo Moggridge works to bridge the gap between knowledge and opportunity, particularly for individuals who have experienced barriers to education.

Jo’s journey into adult education began with her own experiences in the Family Service division of Cardiff
Council, where she worked closely with children and parents. This exposure to real-life challenges and the importance of safeguarding and legislation significantly shaped her approach to teaching. Bringing this experience to adult learning, she has enriched the curriculum with practical insights, making her courses
highly relevant and impactful.

Her personal commitment to education is evident through her innovative teaching methods and her ability
to create a nurturing, inclusive learning environment. Jo delivers learning opportunities in the community, in
schools and online. She is known for her generosity in sharing resources and her willingness to help new tutors to develop in their roles.

Her enthusiasm and positive attitude have been key in reshaping the Adult Learning team, fostering a collaborative environment where educators and learners thrive. Many of the learners who have engaged with
Jo, praise her engaging teaching style and her ability to inspire confidence, helping them overcome personal and educational obstacles, leading to successful progression onto employment or further learning.

Focused on learner needs, Jo has innovated and adapted delivery to ensure that people are able to engage and
develop their skills at a pace that suits them and supports their progression. She has created a pathway that leads
learners up to level 2 courses and into the Teaching Assistant Academy.

Jo’s dedication extends beyond the classroom, as she actively seeks partnerships with local schools and community organisations to reach a broader audience.

Her efforts in developing new courses and pathways have opened doors for many, particularly those who have been out of education for a long time or who face language barriers. She says, “So many adults that access our classes didn’t enjoy their childhood education experience and it can be really daunting to consider learning again when you have negative memories. I am passionate about meeting the needs of each student and will adapt my approach to make every session feel comfortable, accessible and fun for all.”
